Short List of Potential Songs

As you can see, these songs all have a similar genre, dubstep/drum and bass. This is because we want to do a modern track with a heavy bass line. The reason for this is because in our group, we have a large amount of genre's we listen to and eventually, we settled on a dubstep/drum and bass song. The songs by Example are a crossover with grime as Example is such a diverse artist. We all really like 'See the Sea' and are leaning to that.

Research - Song Motive

One characterise of a music video is to contain a motive. This could be anything as long as it’s reoccurring throughout that way giving the audience a chance to spot it and look out for it that way keeping them interested throughout.

In Black Eyed Peas - Where is the love, the motive is the question mark that keeps coming up in different scenes.

Gym Class Heroes - Stereo , in this video the motive is the stereo. It's easy to spot when it appears and keeps the audience interested as it relates to the lyrics as well.

Creating an artist’s image - Creating a Signature Style

Just like anywhere else, in the music industry people don't get an impression from you; they get an impression from the image you project. Therefore when it comes to creating our main artist’s image and style we need to think carefully of certain areas such as:

Extra research for Music Video

This was a music video that I saw and I instantly wanted to do because I loved all the technical aspects of it.

Music Industry: Predictions for 2012

The music industry has changed a lot since the tape records we used to be into. Music was originally distributed in records, then cassette tapes, then C.D'S (Compact Disks). In 2011, record sales have been seriously affected by the surge of illegal downloading. Less and less people are paying for music because they can download music for free. This has been counter acted with websites such as i tunes, where people can pay for individual tracks. Another example of this is Amazon.

As music is now distributed online, music stores such as HMV now face serious threat. The downfall of Zavvi confirmed this. Because of this, I predict that in 2012 there will be more of a pressure for online stores to make music more accessible.

Most artists make their money from gigs, which also can bring them around the world. This is also an opportunity for them to sell merchandise; which is another revenue for current artists. It is important for artists to have dedicated fans that will go to concerts and buy merchandise as it funds the music itself.

Skill Audit: Research

My skills have changed so much to when I started out in my AS year, I used to just think research was using the internet and mostly wikipedia but now I know a lot of new research skills like using books or magazines to learn more about the subject I'm studying. I keep a look out for things that link with Music videos and I don't just watch Music videos anymore I analyse them and look for the conventions of a music video and I even started to look at the making of Music videos through many different vehicles like Youtube and Google.
