Today is the final deadline to our rough cuts of our music video.

We are putting all our footage together and getting it all sorted and into order in final cut pro.

Its becoming very hard and frustrating as we need to get it all done today.

Skills Development: Video Cam

I wanted to do a talk to camera for a change to explain our skills development for the music video we just finished filming.

Filming Summary

Filming has been going good so far and we've got all the scenes that we needed. The first days of filming were very tiring and we recorded some footage inside college but the lighting was not good enough so we had a change of plans and we used that as a test shot instead of actual footage. Then we started filming after half-term. Everything so far has gone to plan and we filmed on the weekend and on our day off from college. Now that the filming is done we've moved on to editing, things are moving very rapidly and we're getting along well, our team is also working better together.

Representation of women in music videos.

Our motif is of a female with a bag over her head, which enforces Laura Mulveys theory that women are for the male gaze in most music videos. Particularly those in the rap/RnB/grime genre which is what genre our video is (grime). In class, we were joking about a video that actually enforces Mulveys idea. It is a parody of a rap called 'Show me your genitals'.

The lyrics are a graphic satire of rap videos, which can often feature lyrics that objectify women. The lyrics are so shocking that the audience can not take them seriously, however in real rap videos, there are artists that use similar ideas, in less obvious ways for the same effect. This glamourises the life of the artist as well as generates interest from the male audience to gain views for the video.

2nd Day Filming

The second day filming was really successful in getting the 'After party' scenes. This consisted of teenagers walking out of a house the day after a party, we created this scene by making the girls look dishevelled, which was achieved in a video that I filmed earlier. W filmed this a few times from different angles so that we can have match cuts later on when we begin to edit.

Whilst waiting for some of the cast we filmed the 'Freedom Fighters' scene where four people are holding signs that say these words. We are going to speed up the clips during the chorus to make this more interesting. To film these parts, we

1st day of filming

The first day of filming was when we filmed all of our base tracks. I requested permission to film at Dalston East Curve Gardens. The location was perfect for the urban music video we planned to create. Just outside of the East Curve Gardens is a Graffiti wall which features different characters and is large in scale.

We made sure to film the base tracks in different angles. Including close ups, which are fundamental in music videos as this is how the audience identifies with the artist.

Inside the East Curve Garden were different walls which were perfect for the music video. We found a board that was perfect for the music video as it was covered in Graffiti. Again, we used this for a close up as the board was small in size. Another wall we found had a painting of a small alien man on it, so we used this in the background of different shots.

Ivet was a character we used in the background of different scenes which the bag on her head. We got some shots of her clicking her fingers, tapping her chair and nodding her head, which we are going to edit to the beat.My favourite shot was when I started at Sifans feet and panned up around his body, then he pushes the camera away. We are going to use this to introduce our artist at the beginning of the song.
