Representation of women in music videos.

Our motif is of a female with a bag over her head, which enforces Laura Mulveys theory that women are for the male gaze in most music videos. Particularly those in the rap/RnB/grime genre which is what genre our video is (grime). In class, we were joking about a video that actually enforces Mulveys idea. It is a parody of a rap called 'Show me your genitals'.

The lyrics are a graphic satire of rap videos, which can often feature lyrics that objectify women. The lyrics are so shocking that the audience can not take them seriously, however in real rap videos, there are artists that use similar ideas, in less obvious ways for the same effect. This glamourises the life of the artist as well as generates interest from the male audience to gain views for the video.
