I took a look at some of the digipaks created by students from last year in hope of seeing what things work and what things don't as much when it comes down to creating your digipak.
The first example is the digipak above and I chose to analyse this one because it is a male artist like our own and although it doesn't relate to our genre per-say it still helped me out in seeing what things perhaps don't work as well as others. For instance, although he tried to keep a blue theme throughout the digipak if we look at it closely we can see that on every panel its a different background, for instance either the city view, or stripes, or just plane blue with a start. For me personally that might not be such a good idea to do because you end up having too many things going on at ones for one digipak.
The second digipak I looked at was this one again with a male artist and I personally felt this digipak was excellent. The main thing that works here is that the artist's personally is clearly portrayed through the different image used inside and out. Also there is a recurring theme of blurred background that allows the audience to focus on the artist, once again excellent for promoting them. The fact that there are two main colours, purple and black and white for the inside again make it easy on the eye and allows for a clear distinction between the inside and out.
Finally, I decided to look at a digipak with a female artist in order to make a comparison. I chose this digipak because I thought it was done well again mainly because of the simple yet effective use of colours and images. It sticks to two main colours and uses close ups of the artist in order to get their personality across and therefore hopefully appeal to their target audience. From taking a closer look at all thee digipaks I realised that the colours I use are highly important in the sense that they should relate not only to the genre conventions, but also relate to the message I wish to send out. Similarly, the images I use of my artist are equally as important and a good idea would be to focus mainly on him that way creating a bond with him and his target audience. Lastly I need to remember to include all the digipak conventions that go on each panel, such as having the artist's name bigger than the title of the album and so on.
