Digipak research

What is a digipak?

Digipaks are another type of CD packaging that is made however from card stock, or any other heavy paper/cardboard material that then flips open like a book and can even have three parts.  Originally, digipaks were owned by IMPAC Group Inc. which was acquired by MeadWestvaco in 2000.

What makes a good Digipak?

  • Colour scheme – The colour scheme of the digipak has to coordinate with the colour of text and the tones of the images used in the digipak

  • Portrayal of artist if featured – If the artist is feature on the digipak the design has to be clear how it portrays and represents the artists to the audience

  • Flow – The digipak has to create an emotional response form the audience so the type of genre has to be portrayed correctly

  • Genre – The genre has to be represented through the font style, colours, images and general themes of the digipak so the target audience are engaged.

  • Value and beliefs – The artist values and belief have to be represented visually either by using graphics or txt

  • Target Audience – when creating your digipak you need to always keep in mind your target audience and what will attract them
