RESEARCH: Carol Vernallis

Carol Vernallis made observations about the conventions of a music video revolving around camera and editing.

*There is usually a Basetrack ( a main scene that the video keeps returning to) to give the video structure. This is also known as a 'Master Shot'

*Edits are more obvious compared to other media products (Television Programmes etc)

*The camera moves! (Usually in time with the Music)

*Jump cuts are often used (not specific to genre)

*The usual rules of 'Continuity Editing' are broken in order to draw attention to what is on the screen
